Waitlists

What is a waitlist?
A waitlist is an electronic list of students who wish to enroll in a class that is currently full. However, joining a waitlist does NOT guarantee enrollment, and not all classes offer this option. Students on the waitlist must meet all registration requirements, including resolving any time conflicts and completing prerequisite courses.
Can I Join Multiple Waitlists?
Yes, you can join waitlists for different subjects. However, you cannot join multiple waitlists for the same course.
How Will I Be Notified if a Seat Becomes Available?

If a seat becomes available, you will receive a “Notification” in myGateway. We strongly recommend that you check your Notifications daily! As a secondary means of notification, we will also send a waitlist notification to your preferred email address on file. (See the following email notice)

Important Student Email Information

Students have reported undelivered, delayed, and/or blank emails from various email providers.

We strongly suggest that students frequently monitor the “Notification” section in myGateway for messages regarding waitlisting.

The college is NOT responsible for undelivered, delayed, or incomplete emails from ANY email provider.

How Long Do I Have to Register Once a Seat Opens?

You have 48 hours to register for the class or until midnight before the class starts, whichever comes first.

What If a Seat Doesn't Open Before the First Class?

You must attend the first class meeting. Your name will be on the instructor’s roster as waitlisted. If seats are available, the instructor may provide you with an Add Authorization Code. Remember, waitlisting does not guarantee enrollment.

How Do I Check My Waitlist Status?
  1. Sign in to myGateway.
  2. Click Register for classes (from the home widget).
  3. Select the correct term.
  4. In the lower panel, click Schedule Details (the Schedule tab shows by default). Your waitlist position appears next to the section info.
  5. Watch your college email/myGateway for notifications about openings and deadlines.
How Do I Join a Waitlist?
  1. Open Register for Classes and select the term.
  2. Find the class (use Find Classes or Enter CRNs).
  3. If the class is full and offers Waitlist, set the course Action in the Summary panel to Waitlist.
  4. Click Submit. The Status will change to Waitlisted.
How Do I Register Once I'm Notified?
  1. During your notification window, open Register for Classes and select the term.
  2. In the Summary panel, change the course Action from Waitlist to Register.
  3. Click Submit and confirm the Status shows Registered.
  4. If you miss the deadline, the offer may pass to the next student. After classes begin, adding typically requires an Add Code from the instructor.
Note: Waitlists close before the start of each term. You are not enrolled while on the waitlist.
What Happens If I Miss the 48-Hour Deadline?

If you miss the deadline, your name is automatically removed from the waitlist, and the next student is notified.

Steps to Add a Course with an Add Code While on the Waitlist

Tip: Add Codes are typically usable after the first class meeting. Follow these steps to switch from waitlisted to registered.

  1. In myGateway, open the Steps to register for classes widget and click Register for classes.
  2. Select the correct Term and continue.
  3. In the bottom Summary panel, find the course where your Status shows Waitlisted. Change the Action to Remove from Waitlist (or Drop) and click Submit to clear the waitlist.
  4. Add the section again:
    • Enter CRNs — type the course CRN, then choose Add to Summary, or
    • Find Classes — search the live schedule, select the section, and add it to your Summary.
  5. When you see Authorization required, enter the instructor’s Add Code exactly as given and confirm.
  6. In the Summary, make sure the course Action is set to Register, then click Submit.
  7. Verify the Status changes to Registered (not Pending or Waitlisted). Use Schedule Details if you want to confirm meeting info.
  8. If the code fails (invalid/expired) or you get another error, contact the instructor/department for help and a new code if needed.
  9. For proof of enrollment and fees, go to myGateway → Tools → Student Tools → Student Services → View Schedule/Bill.
