Pass/No Pass

If a course is listed in the College Catalog as Letter Grade or Pass/No Pass Option, you may choose to take it with a Pass/No Pass (P/NP) grade. See the full policy in the College Catalog (opens in new tab). Receiving a Pass/No Pass demonstrates that you completed the course but does not indicate whether you passed or did not pass.

Grade Definitions

P – Pass

Equivalent to a grade of "C" or better. Units are awarded but not calculated in GPA.

NP – No Pass

Equivalent to "D" or "F." As of Fall 2021, NP is not calculated in GPA and does not count toward progress academic notice or dismissal.

Steps to Update to Pass/No Pass

  1. Log in to myGateway (opens in new tab).
  2. Go to Tools > Registration > Pass/No Pass and Variable Units.
  3. Click the drop-down arrow next to the course you want to change to P/NP.
  4. Click Submit.
  5. A confirmation message changed by student will appear in the grade mode field.

Pass/No Pass Deadlines

  • Full-term classes: The last day to select P/NP is the last day of the term.
  • Short-term classes: The last day to select P/NP is the last meeting day of the class.
The Pass/No Pass grade option may impact your educational and transfer plans. We encourage you to speak with a counselor before making your decision. Fullerton College Counseling (opens in new tab)
