About DegreeWorks
DegreeWorks is a web-based tool for students to monitor their academic progress toward degree or certificate completion. It compares your academic history with the requirements in the College Catalog and presents the results as an organized, visual audit. DegreeWorks is designed to help you prepare for counseling appointments and to use collaboratively with your counselor when planning future coursework.
- Log in to myGateway.
- Click Tools in the top menu.
- Select Student Tools → Student Services.
- Click the DegreeWorks link.
If you have trouble logging in to myGateway, contact the Student Help Desk or visit the Admissions & Records Office.
Your DegreeWorks audit is a planning tool that shows your progress toward your degree or certificate program. It displays which requirements you have completed and which remain. Your official transcript is your permanent college record and provides a chronological list of all courses completed, grades earned, and other academic information. Official transcripts must be requested through Certree.
The audit is organized into blocks, each representing a group of requirements such as your degree, certificate, or General Education pattern. Within each block, requirements appear as checkboxes:
- Checked boxes indicate requirements you have met.
- Unchecked boxes indicate requirements still needed.
Courses you are currently enrolled in appear in an In Progress block near the bottom of the audit. Electives also appear near the bottom. Your counselor can help you read and interpret your audit in detail.
What does the "@" symbol mean?
The "@" symbol is a wildcard in DegreeWorks. If you see it after a subject prefix (e.g., ENGL @), it means any course within that subject area will satisfy the requirement. If you see "@ @", it means any subject and any course number will apply.
Yes. DegreeWorks is a tool designed to facilitate academic counseling, not replace it. Your audit is not an official evaluation. All degree requirements must be verified by an Evaluator prior to graduation, and each student is responsible for complying with all academic policies published in the catalog.
A counselor-approved Student Educational Plan (SEP) is still required for certain benefits, including new and returning student priority registration.
Your catalog year is the academic year in which you were admitted to Fullerton College. DegreeWorks uses your catalog year to determine which set of degree or certificate requirements applies to your audit. This means the requirements shown in your audit may differ from the current year's catalog if your catalog year is older.
If you believe your catalog year is incorrect, or if you would like to update to a newer catalog year, speak with a counselor.
Yes, but making multiple changes to your major or program can have adverse consequences to benefits such as, but not limited to, financial aid. Consult with your counselor before making any changes.
You can change your major or program when you first register for classes, or you can submit a Major Change Form.
Yes. DegreeWorks is laid out in block format displaying degree, certificate, and General Education Pattern requirements. Look for unchecked boxes to identify requirements you still need to complete. Consult with your counselor for a comprehensive review.
Yes. On the Worksheets tab, click the Class History link at the top of the audit for a printable list of all courses you have taken at Fullerton College.
Using the Audit
Your audit will outline courses still needed to meet degree, certificate, and/or General Education requirements within each specific block. Consult with your counselor for a comprehensive review of your audit and remaining coursework.
The "In Progress" block lists all courses you are currently registered for this term. These courses are being counted toward your requirements provisionally until final grades are posted.
Classes that have been withdrawn are still considered "In Progress" in DegreeWorks until all grades for the term are processed by Admissions & Records. Once grades are rolled into academic history, withdrawn courses will no longer appear in the In Progress block.
DegreeWorks evaluates your overall program and places each course using a "best fit" approach. Priorities have been programmed so that courses are used in some areas before others. This process may not always reflect your preferred arrangement, particularly when a course can satisfy multiple requirements.
If a course does not appear in the area where you expected it, click the Help button at the top of your audit and select the Fullerton College button to submit a question. You will receive a response within 2–3 business days. You can also consult with your counselor for a comprehensive review.
Coursework taken at other institutions does not automatically appear in DegreeWorks. Please see a counselor for information on how transfer coursework can be applied toward your degree, certificate, and/or General Education requirements. Once a transfer evaluation has been completed and credit is posted to your record, it will appear in your audit.
DegreeWorks may look at your first attempt at a course. If a repeated course does not appear in the area where you expected it, click the Help button at the top of the audit and select the Fullerton College button to submit a question. You will receive a response within 2–3 business days.
The "Not Counted" section at the bottom of your audit lists courses that will not be applied toward your program requirements. Courses may appear here if they are duplicates of another course on your record, exceed the maximum number of allowable units in a subject, or are otherwise not applicable to your current program. If you have questions about a course appearing in this section, contact your counselor.
You can correct your major or program when you first register for classes, or by submitting a Major Change Form. Keep in mind that multiple changes to your major can have adverse consequences for benefits such as financial aid.
If your audit is not displaying your degree correctly after your major has been updated, click the Help button at the top of your audit and select the Fullerton College button to request additional assistance. You will receive a response within 2–3 business days.
While DegreeWorks is designed to check most graduation requirements, there may be additional requirements for your major that are not captured in the audit. Use DegreeWorks in conjunction with the College Catalog and guidance from your counselor to ensure you remain on track. If you have questions about any additional requirements, speak with a counselor at your next appointment.
If you have more than one program on your record, look for the program drop-down near your name at the top of the DegreeWorks screen. Select your second degree or certificate from the drop-down, then click Process New to generate an audit for that program. If you believe a program is missing from your record, contact a counselor or visit the Admissions & Records Office.
Your degree audit will be updated with your most recent grades once grades have been submitted by your instructor and rolled into academic history by Admissions & Records. Changes to your record are typically reflected in DegreeWorks the following business day after processing.
If everything within your Degree Block appears checked but the block itself is not satisfied, there is likely either a minimum GPA requirement that has not been met, or the overall number of units required for your degree has not yet been reached. Contact your counselor or the Admissions & Records Office for assistance.
No. You must officially apply for graduation through the Admissions & Records Office. A preliminary audit of your coursework and a final audit after all grades have been submitted will determine your eligibility to graduate. An evaluation notice will be sent to you via the email address you provided on your graduation application.
Visit the Graduation page for deadlines and instructions on how to apply.
No. DegreeWorks is a snapshot of your completed, in-progress, and planned coursework. Registration is handled through myGateway. Visit the How to Register page for step-by-step instructions.
Press the Print button at the top of the audit. You can also save the audit as a PDF using your browser's print-to-PDF option and then print or save it to your device.
Using "What If"
The "What If" feature allows you to generate a hypothetical audit based on a different major, certificate, or General Education Pattern. It shows what requirements the new program would have, which of your existing courses would apply, and what coursework would still be needed. This is a great planning tool if you are considering a change of major or exploring a new program.
Consult with your counselor for a comprehensive review before making any decisions based on a "What If" audit.
No. The "What If" function is for informational purposes only and does not change your official record. Whenever a "What If" audit is displayed, you will see the header "What If Audit" at the top of the page to indicate that it is a hypothetical scenario.
If you decide you want to officially change your major, submit a Major Change Form.
Use the "What If" function to generate a hypothetical audit based on your planned change. The "What If" audit will show you the coursework required for the new major or GE Pattern, the courses you have already taken that would satisfy those requirements, and the courses still remaining. Consult with your counselor for a comprehensive review of this report before making any changes.
No. "What If" plans are not saved in DegreeWorks. You will need to run a new "What If" scenario the next time you log in. If you would like to keep a record of the results, use the Print button or save the audit as a PDF before logging out.
The Planner
The Planner is a feature within DegreeWorks that allows you and your counselor to map out your future coursework term by term. It is organized as a grid by academic term and can be used to build a multi-semester plan toward completing your degree, certificate, or transfer requirements. Your counselor will typically help you set up or review your Planner during a counseling appointment.
Click the Help button at the top of the audit and then click the Fullerton College button to submit your question. You will receive a response within 2–3 business days. You can also contact a counselor directly for assistance locating or updating your SEP.
