You'll be prompted to verify your identity after you create your CCCApply account and begin your application. Identity verification is an optional step during the application process.

You have three options when prompted:

  • Verify with CA DMV Wallet - If you have a California Driver's License and compatible smartphone
  • Verify with ID.me - If you have acceptable identification documents
  • Click "Verify Later" - Skip verification and continue your application

Important: Clicking "Verify Later" allows you to complete and submit your application without verifying your identity. You can always verify later if needed, or choose not to verify at all - it's completely optional.

California Community Colleges + CA DMV WALLET

California's mobile Driver's License (mDL) is a free, secure, and convenient digital ID available through the CA DMV Wallet app. The mDL provides a safe, fast, and private way to verify your identity using your phone while protecting your personal information.

Best for individuals who:

  • Have a valid, easily readable California Driver's License or ID
  • Have a compatible smartphone (iPhone XS or later with iOS 17.5+, or Android 9+ with NFC hardware)
  • Have or can create a MyDMV account
  • Want to use their mDL for CCCApply verification

California Community Colleges + ID.me

ID.me verifies your identity online by scanning an ID document and matching a selfie, using facial recognition and fraud checks. It uses strong encryption, retains biometric data only temporarily (24h-36 mo), and is used by more than 100 million individuals and hundreds of government and private organizations.

Best for individuals who:

  • Could not confirm their identity using CA DMV Wallet
  • Do not have access to a mobile device
  • Live outside of California

How to Get Your CA DMV Wallet mDL

The CA DMV Wallet is part of a free and voluntary pilot program. To enroll, follow these steps:

  1. Check your device compatibility:
    • iPhone: iPhone XS or later with iOS 17.5 or later
    • Android: Android 9 or higher with NFC hardware
  2. Download the CA DMV Wallet app from the Apple App Store or Google Play
  3. Log in to your MyDMV account or create one (you may need to provide your DL# and/or SSN# to upgrade your account)
  4. Scan your physical California DL or ID card using the app
  5. Complete the verification process for CCCApply

Important Notes

  • Continue to carry your physical driver's license - The mDL is currently in a pilot program with limited acceptance
  • Refresh every 30 days - Your mDL needs to be updated monthly for the best experience
  • Privacy protected - Usage is not tracked, and no data leaves your device without your consent

🚗 Don't Have a California Driver's License or ID? Learn About AB 60

California's AB 60 program allows individuals who are unable to provide proof of legal presence in the United States to obtain a California driver's license or state ID card. If you don't currently have a California DL or ID, you may be eligible to apply through this program.

To qualify for an AB 60 driver's license:

  • Be unable to provide proof of legal presence in the U.S.
  • Provide proof of identity and California residency
  • Pass the DMV knowledge test and behind-the-wheel drive test
  • Complete a driver education course (if age 15 to 17½)

To qualify for an AB 60 ID card:

  • Be unable to provide proof of legal presence in the U.S.
  • Provide proof of identity and California residency

Note: ID cards do not require testing - only documentation.

How to get started:

  • Use the AB 60 Checklist to see if you have the necessary documents
  • Create a MyDMV account to start your application online
  • Schedule an appointment at your local DMV office

About ID.me

CCCApply has implemented ID.me as part of the online application. ID.me provides a trusted pathway for students to securely verify their identity in accordance with federal standards.

Trusted by Government Agencies

ID.me provides the same technology used for identity verification and fraud reduction currently used across 37 state agencies and 15 federal agencies, notably:

  • California Employment Development Department
  • U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
  • U.S. Internal Revenue Service

Acceptable Documents for ID.me Verification

To verify your identity with ID.me, you must provide two documents:

1. One Photo Identification

  • State identification (ID) card
  • Driver's license
  • Permanent Resident Card
  • Employment Authorization Document

2. At least one Other Identity Document

  • Employment record
  • Address verification (any bill or financial statement showing your name and residence address)
  • Official birth certificate (with official translation, if any)

⚠ Understanding "Verify Later"

Identity verification is completely optional. You can click "Verify Later" during the application process to skip this step and continue with your application.

Some students may prefer to skip verification if they:

  • Do not have valid identity documentation from the country of origin
  • Do not have a permanent address (housing insecure/homeless)
  • Do not have internet access or a smartphone (incarcerated)
  • Are minors (under the age of 18)
  • Prefer not to use biometric verification methods
  • Want to complete their application quickly and verify later

Additional requirements for CA DMV Wallet:

  • Compatible smartphone (iPhone XS or later with iOS 17.5+, or Android 9+ with NFC hardware)
  • A MyDMV account (can be created during enrollment)
  • A valid, easily readable California Driver's License or ID card

✓ You can complete and submit your application without verifying your identity. Choosing "Verify Later" does not negatively impact your application.

  • You may destroy your ID.me credential and associated data at any time
