Preparing for your first semester at Fullerton College as a veteran and/or military member can be exciting and a bit overwhelming. Here are some key steps and tips to help you get started on the right foot:
Feel free to call the office at (714) 992-7102, text us at (714) 909-0144, email us at veterans@fullcoll.edu, visit the office on campus in Building 1900, Room 1902, or visit our Veterans Resource Center Website for great resources and information!
1. Complete Enrollment Steps +
Apply: Ensure you have completed your online application to Fullerton College.
Financial Aid: Apply for financial aid through FAFSA or California Dream Act if applicable.
Assessment: Complete any required assessments or placement tests.
Orientation: Complete the student online orientation to get familiar with the campus and its resources. Visit Online Orientation for video instructions on how to complete the online orientation.
2. Veteran and Military Counseling and Register for Classes +
Meet with a Counselor: A counseling appointment will only be made once you have an established file in the VRC. Call 714-992-7102 or come into the VRC to make an appointment to see the veterans academic counselor. Bring unofficial/official transcripts at the time of your appointment. Official transcripts will be required prior to the start of your 3rd semester. Two weeks before and two weeks after registration each semester, counseling in the VRC will be done on a walk-in basis.
Priority Registration: Veteran Students who are members or former members of the Armed Forces of the United States who received an honorable discharge, a general discharge, or other than honorable discharge are granted priority registration for enrollment for any academic term. Priority registration is not an automatic process. You must request priority registration prior to the start of the registration period by submitting a copy of your military ID (CAC), DD214, NGB 22, or NOBE (DD2384) to the Veterans Resource Center located in Building 1900, Room 1902.
Register Early: Classes can fill up quickly, so register as soon as you are able. Your registration date will be assigned roughly a month before the term starts. To view your registration date, simply login to myGateway and navigate to Tools > Registration > Registration Appointment. Fullerton College uses College Scheduler for registration and it generates a variety of daily schedules to fit your needs based on criteria you input, such as campus location, desired courses, and work breaks.
You can visit how to register for a step-by-step guide to adding your desired courses.
3. Veteran Resource Center +
Certification: After you have registered for classes, you must turn in your Request for Certification form.
- If for any reason you enroll in a class not on your SEPP, you must first email the VRC counselor to make the appropriate updates, and then turn in your Request for Certification.
- All requests or questions regarding VA certification may be sent to VRCCertifications@fullcoll.edu.
DD214: Turn this into the Veterans Resource Center to obtain priority registration.
Letter of Eligibility: Bring this letter in as soon as you receive it. This is the letter the VA will send you once you have been approved for your GI Bill® or Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) benefits. If you changed schools, you will receive a new one once the VA approves the change.
