F-1 visa holder transferring or attending part-time, F-2 visa holder, or changing status to F-1

What Happens After I Apply?

Follow these steps to complete your enrollment and get ready for your first day of class.

  1. Verify Your Identity

    If you selected "Verify Later" on your application, complete verification now. You can verify with the CA DMV Wallet, with ID.me, or in person at Admissions & Records in Building 2000. Once your identity has been verified, your application will be processed within 3 to 5 business days and you will receive your student ID number and your registration appointment time. Applicants under 18 are not required to verify.

  2. Check Your Email (Within 3 to 5 Business Days)

    Your application will be processed within 3 to 5 days after your identity is verified. Once processed, you'll receive important information including your student ID number and instructions for accessing myGateway, your student portal.

    Don't see the email? Check your spam/junk folder. It includes instructions for finding your registration date and payment details.

  3. Complete Orientation & Assessment

    Required for priority registration. Complete online orientation and assessment to get the best registration time.

  4. Meet with a Counselor

    Create your Student Educational Program Plan (SEPP) and get help choosing the right classes for your goals.

  5. Check Your Registration Date

    Find out when you can register for classes in myGateway. Earlier registration times mean better class availability!

  6. Register for Classes

    Add classes to your schedule and pay your fees. Don't forget to apply for financial aid first!

  7. Get Ready for Day One
